The basement of this Wilmette, Illinois property was cramped and not high enough to pass for a living space. The owners wanted to extend their living space into the basement and make a comfortable place to relax.
First, we needed to dig into the concrete subfloor and dig down about two feet through the concrete in order to give the space about 16 additional inches of height. While our hands were already dirty with concrete we installed an updated drain and plumbing system to ensure that even heavy rains wouldn’t overwhelm the basement. The homeowners preferred a more segmented floor plan with a single large room in the middle. New framing and electrical was installed and the walls were insulated. In the end the project was finished with premium carpeting and elegant trim. Bright colors and plenty of recessed lights helped ensure bright spaces despite the lack of natural light in many of the spaces.
