Bathroom Remodeling Ideas: 5 Dos and 5 Don’ts Part Two
Bathroom remodeling projects can go very wrong very fast if you aren’t familiar with the things that can go wrong. Many homeowners want to jump into a remodeling project without putting forth the proper planning or budgeting. Our previous blog post focused on 5 dos, so this continuation post focuses on the 5 don’ts of bathroom remodeling.
Five Don’ts of Bathroom Remodeling
Forgoing the Planning Process
Yes, bathroom renovations take a long time, but that time can be even longer if you do not take the time to plan the project out before you begin. There is nothing worse than starting the project and determining that you want a certain flooring or countertop, only to find out that that item is on backorder and you won’t have it for another three weeks. That little issue can cause your completion date to be three weeks later than planned.
Cutting Costs on Major Items
Faucets can be quite costly, but most of the high-end ones have a lifetime warranty that even covers leaks and stains. While the cost may be higher upfront, the long-term savings are substantial. Tiles are another item that you should spend a little more money on, because some of the cheaper options do not look as nice once they are installed. A couple of items that you can save some cash on are light fixtures and toilets. The nice designs or luxury points on both those items at the higher prices are fantastic, but they do not work any better than the cheaper versions.
Not Thinking about Tomorrow
You may be young and healthy right now, but that does not guarantee that you will still be young and healthy in twenty or thirty years. Everything can change in a blink of an eye and the better prepared you are now, the easier it will be if and when something happens. A seat in the shower can be used as much today as it will be in the future and is the perfect spot for a woman to shave her legs. It can also be used whenever a person is feeling under the weather and needs to sit for a minute during their shower.
Buying an Item without Seeing it in Person
Nothing pictured online looks like it does when it arrives at your house. This hold true for clothes, toys, household items, and furniture. You may think that you have found the perfect vanity online and then once it arrives at your house, you find it is not the color you wanted. Or you thought it had more storage space than it actually does. We recommend that you look at everything that you want to purchase in an actual store, before you make any final decisions.
Too Little Storage
We always tell people that they need more storage than they think that they do. We couldn’t tell you how many people have come up to us after a renovation project either saying that they wish they had listened to us or that they are glad that they did listen to us, because they used every inch of storage that was available in their bathroom. There are many ways to add storage to your bathroom, whether you add an armoire, old chest of drawers, or open shelves.
