How to Effectively Use Google Images, Pinterest, and Houzz to Plan Your Remodel
Homeowners would traditionally spend time flipping through the pages of home magazines looking for images that spark their interest. They would painstakingly cut or tear those images from the magazine and tuck them into a folder or an envelope to share them with their contractor.
Technology has made that process so much easier. Now clients can save pictures to their phone or computer and share them with us via social media, email, or text. Here are a few more things you can do to prepare for your remodeling project using online sources.
Find What You Love
We often have people tell us that they’ll know what they want when they see it. Our advice used to be to flip through magazines. Now our advice is to go online. We love having our clients email, text, or otherwise share online images with us. This type of sharing allows us to get a better idea of what each client wants and how we can implement those desires into their project.
Get the Family Involved
Family involvement is especially fun when playrooms, family rooms, or bedrooms are included in the remodeling project. This allows kids to get really creative with the layout of the playroom and suggest things that the adults may not even consider. It also helps the adult family members open up about what they would like to see as a finished product.
Online Resources are Popular!
Nearly 50 million people in the United States alone use Pinterest. Houzz sees nearly 35 million unique monthly visitors. That doesn’t even touch Etsy, Instagram, or social media giant Facebook. Searching for remodeling ideas online can be a bit overwhelming, but once you start narrowing down your choices, you can really pinpoint exactly what you want.
For example, let’s say you see an incredible kitchen with granite countertops, stainless appliances, tile flooring, a gorgeous backdrop, and custom cabinets on Google Images. You can click that image to visit the website. Most builders gladly reveal the types of materials used. This allows you to research those specific materials to see if they fit your lifestyle and budget.
Alternatively, you can create a Pinterest board and share your ideas with us there. All you have to do is add your ideas, make notes along the way, and send us the unique link to your Pinterest board. We can view them and get back to you with any questions.
Once you’ve narrowed down the items you want, it’s all downhill from there. We can help you find those materials, and we may even be able to get you a better deal than you could find on your own.
