Installing a New Roof? Tips for Choosing the Best Color

Pexels Photo 192601Replacing your roof is one of the best ways to make your home look better and improve your curb appeal, but you will need to choose a color that will work best for your home.  It is not going to be easy to decide what color your new roof should be, but if you take your time and keep a few things in mind, it will be easier than you think.

Here are 3 tips for choosing the best color for your new roof:

The Climate of Where You Live

The color of your roof will determine how hot your attic or upper floor is throughout the year.  That temperature can make a massive difference in how much you are spending or saving on your energy bills each month.  A dark-colored shingle will absorb the heat from the sun and make your home feel warmer.  However, a lighter colored shingle will keep your home cooler since it reflects the heat of the sun.

The Color of the Rest of the Exterior of Your Home

We recommend choosing a color for your roof that will match the rest of exterior of your home.  Your roof is such a large area that a clashing color is going to be noticeable for miles.  If you are not sure which colors will match what you already have, your roofing professional can assist you.

The Architecture of Your Home

A traditional home will look best with a dark and classic roofing color, while those colors will not work on other house styles.  You should always determine the style of your home and then choose the color that will highlight the unique features the most.  If you have a smaller home, we recommend using a lighter color on your roof to make it look larger.  However, if you have a large house already, you can choose a darker color.

Please make sure that you think through the color that you want before you have your new roof installed because that roof will be part of your home for at least ten or fifteen years.  If you just throw a color up there without thinking of what it will look like, you will need to live with it for a long time or spend additional money to have your roof replaced once again.
