9 Timeless Kitchen Trends that You Need to Implement in 2018

The word trend often carries a bit of a negative connotation. We automatically think of trend diets, or fashion trends that are here one month then modified or gone the next. But in terms of kitchen design, some trends are here to stay for the long haul. Today we’re going to talk about floor plans, colors, specific materials, and more.

Timeless Kitchen Trends

  1. Open Kitchen Design: Early kitchens were small, efficient rooms that blocked the cook from participating in conversation or entertaining guests. The open concept kitchen provides sitting spaces for guests and allows the chef to fully engage guests while dinner is being prepared.
  2. Induction Cooktops: Face it, they just look better. Induction cooktops use less heat than their counterparts, so the room doesn’t overheat as quickly. They also serve as regular countertop space when they’re not in use.
  3. Single-Level, Counter-Height Kitchen Island: The kitchen island has undergone several changes throughout the years, but we often end up right back where they began – counter height and all one level. Add some bar overhang and seating, and you’re good to go.
  4. Waterfall Kitchen Island and Countertops: Tired of looking at bare wood at the end of your cabinets? Extend the countertop material all the way to the floor. This makes the area so much easier to clean and it looks amazing.
  5. Revamp Your Kitchen Ceiling: Coffered ceilings add a lot to the room in terms of design. You can stain them dark wood color or paint them white like you would any other type of ceiling. The choices and options are endless.
  6. LED Lighting: LED lighting offers a plethora of options these days. It’s much friendlier than it was years ago, and not nearly as harsh on the eyes. LEDs are excellent for use in toe-kick lighting, over the island, in recessed lighting, or even used as task lighting.
  7. Hidden Appliances: Hiding the appliances in plain sight can happen in a few different ways. We can build cabinets specifically for them, they can be recessed into a closet-like area, or you can change the doors and trim to match your kitchen’s decor.
  8. White: White is a simple yet sophisticated color that can truly make a big difference in the kitchen. White cabinets with a white backsplash provides an excellent backdrop for decorative items. All you have to do to spice things up a bit is change the decor from time to time; nearly everything goes well with white!
  9. Deep Drawers with Organizers: Keep your dishes neatly organized with deep drawers and organizers. This keeps everything within reach and well-organized so you don’t have to hunt for items when you need them.

See? We don’t have to run the opposite direction when we hear the word trend because some trends are truly worth the time and effort.
