First of all this particular Chicago basement didn’t have appropriate height. Local building department requires at least 7 feet height for a legal living space. Our crew dug out the entire area to the main foundation footing so we could build 8 foot walls duplexed with 1st floor.
The major basement advantage in terms of heating is a radiant heated floor, along with hardwood floors installed over concrete. Also as a great addition we created two separate modern bathrooms, two bedrooms and many recessed shelves and closets. During remodeling we planned every nook to be efficient and comfortable for everyday use.
