Choose the Perfect Kitchen Sink for Your Chicago Kitchen Remodeling Project

What is the item that is used the most in your kitchen? If you answered your kitchen sink, then your answer is the same as millions of other people. However, do you have a kitchen sink that works best for your needs or do you find yourself wishing that you had something different?

Here are 3 types of kitchen sinks that you can choose from for your kitchen:

Large single sink: A large single sink only has one basin, which is great for washing larger items, but not so good for quick dishwashing or rinsing vegetables.

Two basins: Sinks with two basins can be a lifesaver in many homes. Many people will use one side for washing dishes and the other for washing hands. Another option is to wash dishes on one side and let them dry on the other side.

Three basins: A three-basin sink has two larger basins for washing dishes and a smaller basin for the garbage disposal. This type of sink is larger than the others, so it will take up more of your counter space.

Of course, all of the above sinks are available in many different shapes and multiple materials and you will need to choose the ones that you like best.

Kitchen Sink Shapes

Farmhouse: A farmhouse sink is usually a simple and large basin and this sink sits lower than the countertop.

Double Farmhouse: Farmhouse sinks are also available with double basins now, which are perfect for those of you who like the look of a farmhouse sink, but want the convenience of two basins.

Rounded Sides: Many people prefer the look of a sink that has a rounded side and these sinks are available with single, double, and triple basins. Some of these sinks sit below the countertop while others rest above the counter.

Kitchen Sink Materials

Stainless Steel: Stainless steel is very durable and easy to clean, but it can get scratched easily. These scratches can be buffed out, but we recommend placing a wire tray at the bottom to avoid the scratches. If you live in an area where there is hard water, then you will find that you will have a lot of water spots on this material.

Porcelain: You can choose from multiple colors when you purchase a porcelain sink, but they can chip and scratch easily. They do not show hard water spots though and they are easy to keep clean.

Granite Composite: Granite composite sinks do not show hard water spots and does not chip or scratch. You will need to do some maintenance on this type of sink on occasion, but that maintenance is not difficult or time consuming.

Natural Stone: An easy way to match your kitchen sink to your countertop is to choose natural stone, however, natural stone can be expensive. You may need to use special cleaners on your natural stone kitchen sink and it can scratch and chip quite easily.

Make Your Choice Wisely

These are most of your options for kitchen sinks and you will need to decide on what you prefer from each category. The end result will be a kitchen sink that you enjoy using and will last you a long time.
