Home Interior Remodeling is about Much More than Removing a Few Walls

Some homeowners look for the perfect home before signing on the dotted line where others prefer to find the almost-perfect home and remodel it. The latter is the type of home buyer we’re talking to in this post, because we’re going to talk about modifying walls and fully remodeling the interior of your home.

Take Advantage of Windows

Window placement means a lot when you’re remodeling your home. The removal of a wall means that the windows on the exterior wall will provide light to the entire new area. Consider the amount of light that will filter into the area before making plans. You don’t want a lot of window glare on the television, for example. This does, however, give you the perfect opportunity to take advantage of natural lighting in this new part of your home.

Factor in Support Walls

Support walls cannot simply be demolished to create a larger room. The support they provide to the roof must be maintained. Removing a support wall compromises the structural stability and can cause the roof to collapse.

Flooring Issues

The missing strip of carpet, tile, hardwood flooring, or other material will have to be addressed. This is less of an issue if you’re already planning to install new flooring material in the entire area. Otherwise, matching can get pretty difficult.

Plumbing and Electrical Considerations

Plumbing and electrical systems are run through interior walls and must be taken into consideration when remodeling. The wall may only have one or two electrical outlets on it, but they must be addressed before the wall can be removed.

Raise the Ceiling

Make the rooms look larger by raising the existing ceiling by 6 inches. Most ceiling joists have space for some type of modification if you’re considering an artistic ceiling style like coffers or exposed beams. We can take a look and let you know what’s feasible during the design process.

Finishing Touches

Finishing touches make a big impact on the project. Base trim, attractive paint choices, matching fixtures and outlets, and crown molding all play integral parts in the finishing process. The finishing touches are honestly what makes the room shine and ties each area together seamlessly.
