Remodel Your Basement and Prepare for those Cooler Fall and Winter Temperatures

If you are feeling cramped inside your home or if your children and significant other always seem to be underfoot, it may be time to make a change.

You may need to begin to try to find a way to add more space to your home. Basement remodeling is often the best choice for homeowners who currently have an unfinished basement and need more space.

While adding an addition to your home might be your first choice, it is not always the best choice. Your first option should be to make the most of the space that you already have. The first question that we always ask people who are looking for more space is, “Is your basement finished?”

That is often answered with blank stares and then the remarks “Oh, it is too dark and dreary down there,” or “I would never want to spend time in a basement.”

Our response is “If you do it the right way, you’ll never believe that it once used to be a dark and dreary space that you disliked going into.” Now is the time to begin your own basement remodeling project, so that it is completed before the cooler temperatures arrive later this year.

Here are 3 ideas for your newly remodeled basement:

Create a wonderful seating area: You can choose how you want your basement remodeled, and while many people want one big open space, you may decide to do the exact opposite and create multiple seating areas. It doesn’t matter which option you choose as long as it is the one that works best for you and your family.

Add the little comforts of home: You are going to want to make your remodeled basement a welcoming space, so that means you will have to make it as comfortable as the rest of your home. We recommend adding a couch or two, comfortable chairs, a small table, lamps, and anything else that will make you want to choose to go down there.

Add a kitchenette: Once you begin to use your basement more and more, it will become a little inconvenient to go upstairs every single time someone is hungry or thirsty. To alleviate that issue, we recommend installing a bar area that is complete with a refrigerator, small sink, and cabinets. This area does not need to be large and you can even put in a mini-fridge instead of a full-size one. If you want to go all out, then a dishwasher would definitely complete the space. A bar is also perfect for entertaining.

These three ideas will help you turn your boring and unutilized basement into the space of your dreams. Once it is completed, you will find that you are down there all the time and you won’t know how you managed to live without that space for all these years.
