What Type of Cabinets Should You Choose for Your Kitchen Remodel?

As you are deciding on what style cabinet you want in your newly remodeled kitchen, you will want to decide exactly how much money you want to spend on these new cabinets. You will need to determine if it would be worth it to spend money on more expensive cabinets or if that money could be better used in another area of the kitchen.

Here are 4 different types of cabinets that you can choose from for your kitchen remodel:

• Ready to Assemble Cabinets: Ready to assemble cabinets can be purchased immediately and taken home and assembled. Since these are boxed up and not assembled, these cabinets are a good way to save money. However, there is not a large selection of sizes, styles, or materials to choose from.
• Stock Cabinets: Stock cabinets are another cost-effective option that is available to you. These cabinets are mass produced and only available in certain sizes. Depending on the type of stock cabinet you choose, the material could be particleboard covered with laminate or melamine or it could be solid wood.
• Semi-Custom Cabinets: Semi-custom cabinets have a larger selection of styles and materials and these cabinets can often have size adjustments made. Since these cabinets can have changes made, they need to be custom ordered. The selection of styles, finishes, and decorative enhancements that are available means that these cabinets will give your kitchen a more personalized look.
• Custom Cabinets: Custom made cabinets are completely made to order, so it is easy to acquire a cabinet that is a unique size. These cabinets can be made from any material, in any finish and in any style. These cabinets can be quite pricey and it is easy to spend your entire remodeling budget on these cabinets alone.
Cabinet Sizing

The size of the cabinets you will need in your remodeled kitchen will determine what type of cabinets you will be able to choose from. Hopefully many of your cabinets will be standard sizes so that you can save some money to use on other important features in your new kitchen. Specialty cabinets do cost more, so make sure you’ve made room in the budget if you plan to install cabinets that are not necessarily standard sizes.
